National Vision Distribution Center
The Distribution Center
The Distribution Center (DC), located in Lawrenceville, Georgia, is the hub of our 5-lab network. DC employees manage and coordinate the logistics and shipping of company products, as well as other store resources. With roughly 35 employees, the DC is often considered the “heartbeat” of the company.
Working at the Distribution Center
The Selection and Supply Teams are the early birds of the DC. With shifts often beginning at 6am, these teams are responsible for picking products, supplies and accessories to be delivered to our stores. Arriving shortly after the Selection and Supply Teams is the Receiving/Returns Team. This group receives all inbound product from vendors, and accepts returns from stores, restocks items on shelves and processes returns to vendors.
The Shipping Team is the last team to arrive for the day. Split into two shifts, these associates are responsible for packing up all products, supplies and accessories needed at our stores and shipping them out.
The DC is managed by James Smallwood, who has been with NVI for 23 years.
Distribution Center Culture
The culture at the DC centers on a healthy work/life balance and is one that encourages growth and innovation.
Each team within the DC is a tight knit group, and the entire team functions like a large family. Monthly birthday parties are just one way DC associates take time out of their busy schedules to celebrate each other.
DC Associates also look forward to Frozen Fridays – a chance to enjoy free ice cream and cool off every Friday during the summer months.
Testimonials
Xee Vang, DC Data Analyst, started with the Selections Team and has been with the company for 3 years. When asked why she enjoys working at the DC, Xee says:
“Working at the DC has opened so many doors to new challenges and opportunities. I get to interact with different people on all different levels of the organization and I love that my Director encourages me to take training programs that help me grow professionally.”
The Returns Lead, Kedra Cook, had been working at the DC for 2 years. She started in Selections and then handled phone calls as well as processing cross docks as DC Support. Here’s what she has to say about working at the DC:
“What I love about the DC is that we have a great group of leaders and associates. We push on another to achieve higher goals and execute each task in a timely manner. Each department is very different but each compliments the other which makes us a stronger team.”
