“Priceless” Opportunities: Human Resources Internship

Picture of Taylor PodhouserMy name is Taylor Podhouser, and I am an Intern in the Human Resources Department at National Vision, Inc. (NVI).  I am from Alpharetta, GA and am currently a senior at the Culverhouse College of Commerce and Business Administration at The University of Alabama.  I am graduating in May 2018 with a dual major in Marketing and Management with a minor in Computer Technology and Applications.

From a young professional’s perspective, it is very difficult to find a company like NVI that speaks to you on the same level as all the other colleagues in the work place.  At National Vision, I have been given the opportunity to show my true talents and abilities all while learning from a variety of business professionals.

My Internship Perspective

Applying for internships can be intimidating.  You receive all these emails not knowing exactly how to reply “professionally” or if that company is the right fit for you.  At National Vison, my interview process was very personal and made me feel wanted.  As a college student, there is nothing more I want than to have a company acknowledge how hard I have worked  in the last couple of years.

Spending the last few years of my life on a college campus, I was stuck in the college bubble forgetting what it was like in the “real” world.  NVI has taught me more about business than I have learned in most of my college lectures.  Someone can tell you how to do something 1,000 times in a classroom, but you truly do not know how to do something unless you have the hands on experience in a corporate environment.  Experiences create inspiration. And, as a rising graduate, I have had experiences through my internship with NVI that I have not received anywhere else.Books

My summer at NVI has been full of different projects providing me with experience in compensation, job descriptions, job initiative programs, unemployment, and much more all while building bridges for my future.

My experience came full circle when I was getting a new pair of glasses at one of our America’s Best Contacts & Eyeglasses stores. I had the opportunity to meet an Associate that had just been promoted from the project I was personally working on.  This is just another priceless opportunity I have had this summer at National Vision.

Overall, my expectations have been blown out of the water, and I cannot wait to use the knowledge I have learned as an Intern at National Vision in my future career!
