National Vision had the opportunity to support the Life for Haiti Foundation during a recent mission trip to Haiti in August, 2017.

We were connected to the group through an Optometrist practicing in multiple America’s Best Contacts & Eyeglasses offices in the Baltimore/Washington D.C. area, and thanks to our partner, RestoringVision, we were able to make a donation of reading glasses and sunglasses.

Over the course of just a couple of days, 10 volunteers traveled to

five impoverished locations in Haiti – Aux Cayes, Fond Blanc, Jacmel, Cité Soleil, and Fontamara. They distributed 300 glasses and 100 pairs of sunglasses to local Haitians who did not have the financial means to buy eyewear.

Supporting this group’s mission to help the people of Haiti with essential vision care aligns with our company Vision: “We believe everyone deserves to see their best to live their best.”

“Giving the glasses out was the most wonderful experience and this was evidenced by the receipts’ smiles,” says Nurse Jean Carlos Sylvain, Vice President for Life for Haiti Foundation.

Nurse Sylvain adds, “For many people, receiving the reading glasses or sunglasses was a life changing experience from a health perspective. Sunglasses are so vital in this tropical country and reading glasses allow people to read and do work up-close.”
