Marketing Associate Drives A Monster Jam Truck

Marketing and Monster Jam group

National Vision Associates with the Monster Jam team.

In November 2016, our America’s Best Contacts & Eyeglasses brand became an official national partner of Monster Jam.® As part of the partnership, America’s Best customers who spend $69.95 on the purchase of eyeglasses or contact lenses can receive one free ticket to a Monster Jam event. (Offer may differ in some states.)

Last month, Marketing Associate, Carrie Brown, and some her colleagues in the Marketing Department, were invited to the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia to drive Monster Jam trucks!

As the Event Marketing Coordinator, Carrie manages our partnership with Monster Jam. In this role, she works in conjunction with Feld Entertainment® on marketing strategies aimed at successfully spreading awareness of this partnership to their audience as well as our customers.  She also coordinates Monster Jam truck visits and truck experiences hosted at our America’s Best stores, and Pit Parties held at stadiums and arenas across the United States.

We recently had a chance to sit down and chat with Carrie about what it was like to drive a Monster Jam truck.  Here’s what she had to say:

Why were you invited to drive a Monster Jam truck?

“I was invited to the stadium to drive the Monster Jam truck because I work exclusively on the America’s Best and Monster Jam partnership. I have attended several Monster Jam shows to gain a better understanding of how we can maximize our partnership, and this was an added treat.”

Driving a Monster Jam truck is not something you get to do every day!  Tell us what it was like.

“The days leading up to scheduled truck drive were filled with excitement and anticipation. As I walked into the stadium, suited up, and then proceeded to the stadium floor where I saw all of our names illuminated on the jumbo tron, that excitement intensified immensely.

While I’ve been around these Monster Jam trucks on many occasions, on this day, as I got closer to the truck I became nervous. Even more-so as the team of Monster Jam drivers began to educate us on the various parts of the truck, how it operates, the power of the truck and the hand signals we had to learn. My mind drifted and I thought what if I go too fast, lose control and hit something in this brand new stadium?

Thankfully, when it was my turn to get into the truck, I had a great instructor in Mohawk Warrior driver, Bryce Kenny. He was patient, thorough and walked me through everything.  All nerves and fear dissipated, as he told me to just go hard and have fun!”

What about physically? It can’t be easy to drive a Monster Jam truck!

“Being inside the truck, I felt very confined. The space is extremely tight and for safety, drivers are buckled in with at least three seat belts across various parts of your body. Once strapped in, you cannot even turn your head to the left and right.

It was not definitely not easy to drive a truck that size!”

Did you ever think this would be something you did at work?

“No! Prior to joining National Vision, I never imagined I would one day work with monster trucks, let alone have an opportunity to drive one.  It was not until I saw the Wonder Woman Monster Jam truck at a truck visit hosted by our America’s Best store in Pearland, Texas, that I had the desire to drive one.”

What an experience for Carrie and her Marketing colleagues! Certainly one that they will never forget.
