Boys & Girls Clubs of America Partnership: We Are Changing Lives!

What have we accomplished so far in our partnership with BGCA?

Our partnership “pilot” phase has been completed with amazing results so far!

• More than 1,200 kids screened in 26 Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
• More than 25% of all kids screened received an eye exam.
• Of kids that received an eye exam, 96% needed glasses – and now they have them!

A big thank-you to the 36 America’s Best stores, 192 associates and 55 doctors* that have helped make this pilot a success!

Here’s What Participating Clubs Had To Say:

“This is an incredible program! We were able to provide our members with a service that will help them in their daily lives and improve their academic success.”Little boy trying on glasses

“The parents still can’t believe that it is all free, they are extremely happy!”

What’s next?

We are working closely with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America to plan and prepare for the implementation of this program in at least 51 additional clubs in the fall of 2016. Why so long? Summers are transient times for Clubs, and by waiting until after school starts, we have an opportunity to make a greater impact in communities.

About Our Partnership: Helping Kids See a Brighter Future

1K9B4096A pair of glasses is so much more than some frames and lenses. For many children, being able to see clearly can change their life. Grades can improve, confidence can increase and even social activity can be more positive.

Last year, through our America’s Best Contacts & Eyeglasses brand, National Vision began a partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA). Together, we provide Club Kids around the country with free vision screenings and if needed, access to free, comprehensive eye exams and free glasses in just a few easy steps:

1. Administer a vision screening: the child is screened at a participating Boys & Girls Club (with a signed permission slip from a parent/legal guardian).

2. Refer for an eye exam: based on screening results, the child may be referred to see a licensed optometrist at an America’s Best Contacts & Eyeglasses location for a free eye exam.*Eye Doctor with little boy

3. Provide glasses: After the exam, if needed, the child will receive a free basic pair of prescription lenses and a free frame (up to $59.95).

*In some states eye exams provided by independent optometrists or ophthalmologists.
