What’s Think About Your Eyes?
An initiative presented by The Vision Council and the American Optometric Association, Think About Your Eyes is a national public awareness campaign aimed at educating consumers on the benefits of vision health.
Think About Your Eyes was launched nationally on July 22, 2013 after two successful pilot programs proved that a public awareness campaign does increase yearly eye exams. Their mission is to grow the number of annual comprehensive eye exams – by increasing public awareness of the need for better eye health and vision care. National Vision, Inc. has been a proud partner of Think About Your Eyes since 2014.
What does this campaign do?
Think About Your Eyes promotes educational and non-commercial messages that focus on the various vision and health benefits of an annual eye exam. They do this through a variety of channels such as print, radio, television, online/digital advertising, public relations, and through social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter. Consumers are directed to www.thinkaboutyoureyes.com, which has received more than 2.3 million visitors and features a doctor locator that hosts 16,000 active, practicing members.
Think About Your Eyes also has a blog tour underway, with 55 bloggers from the Influence Central network blogging about their own experiences with vision health and the importance of getting an annual eye exam. These bloggers are linking to the Think About Your Eyes website and encouraging readers to learn more about vision health and find an eye doctor in their area.
What has Think About Your Eyes accomplished?
According to the American Optometric Association, Think About Your Eyes was responsible for a 7.2 percent increase in total eye exams in 2014 versus 2013. Additionally, in 2014 the campaign reached 95 percent of Americans between 25-49 years old – over 150 million consumers and the largest public exposure for vision care!
The Vision Council reports that the campaign generated more than 1 million eye exams in 2015, which resulted in $55.5 million in eye exam revenue, as well as $444 million in industry revenue from sales of glasses and contacts. They believe this campaign is truly changing consumer attitudes about eye exams and driving growth in the eyecare industry.

National Vision supports Think About Your Eyes’ mission to educate the public on the benefits of vision health and the importance of getting an annual eye exam. Along with 18 industry companies and 29 state optometric associations, we understand that this powerful cause needs our support to become even broader and stronger. This way, even more people will receive annual eye exams and be able to see their best to live their best!
